This multi-day adventure begins and ends in Puerto Jiménez and takes you deep into the wild landscapes of Corcovado National Park. Your first night is spent in the La Leona sector, staying at an ecolodge just steps from the rainforest and the Pacific coast. The following day, the journey continues with an 18-kilometer coastal hike to Sirena Ranger Station, where you will spend your second night. This full-day trek takes 6 to 8 hours, depending on pace and wildlife sightings, and blends scenic beach sections with lush rainforest trails and occasional river crossings. Along the way, you’ll have excellent opportunities to observe Corcovado’s extraordinary wildlife, including monkeys, sloths, tapirs, birds, and reptiles. This itinerary provides a complete immersion into the heart of Corcovado, guided by an expert naturalist and designed for travelers seeking a true wilderness experience.Logistics
Day 1
6:00 AM – Departure from Corcovado Wild Tours Office to La Leona Ecolodge
Meet your guide at the Corcovado Wild Tours office and begin the journey in a 4x4 vehicle
6:00 AM – 9:00 AM – Puerto Jiménez to Matapalo (Safari-Style Drive)
9:00 AM – 10:00 AM – Visit to Matapalo Waterfall Arrive at Matapalo Waterfall and take time to explore, relax, and enjoy the refreshing surroundings.
11:00 AM – Typical Lunch at Rancho Piro Savor a delicious traditional Costa Rican lunch at Rancho Piro before continuing the journey.
12:00 PM – Continue to the La Leona Sector Travel by 4x4 toward the entrance of the La Leona sector.
12:30 PM – Start Hike to La Leona Ecolodge Leave the vehicle and begin the walk toward La Leona Ecolodge.
2:00 PM – 5:30 PM – Free Time Enjoy the stunning ocean views and immerse yourself in the surrounding tropical forest. Perfect time to relax, unwind, or explore the beach.
5:30 PM – 7:00 PM – Guided Night Tour Join your guide for an exciting night walk to discover the forest’s nocturnal wildlife.
7:00 PM – Dinner End the day with a well-deserved dinner at the lodge.
Day 2
5:30 AM – 7:00 AM: Birdwatching Tour near La Leona Start the morning with a guided birdwatching tour around the La Leona area, where many species are most active at sunrise.
7:00 AM – Breakfast Enjoy breakfast at the lodge before preparing for the long coastal hike to Sirena.
7:30 AM – Departure from La Leona Ecolodge to Sirena Station
Begin the 18 km trek from La Leona Ecolodge toward Sirena Station.
7:30 AM – 4:00 PM – Coastal Hike to Sirena Station Hike along the stunning Corcovado coastline, enjoying beautiful ocean views and a refreshing mix of beach and rainforest trails.
6:00 PM – Dinner at Sirena Station Arrive at Sirena, settle in, freshen up, and enjoy a hearty dinner at the station.
Day 3
5:00 AM – 7:30 AM: Optional Early Morning Hike to the Sirena River
Begin the day with an optional sunrise hike along the Sirena River, an excellent opportunity to observe wildlife during its most active hours.
7:30 AM – Breakfast at Sirena Station Return to the station to enjoy a well-deserved breakfast.
8:00 AM – 11:30 AM: Explore Sirena Trails Continue exploring the network of trails around Sirena, known for some of the best wildlife sightings in Corcovado.
12:00 PM – Pack Up and Walk to the Beach for Boat Pick-Up
Gather your belongings and head to the beach to meet your boat.
2:30 PM – Arrival in Puerto Jiménez Return to Puerto Jiménez by boat, concluding your adventure through Corcovado National Park.
